Hunny
An independently designed and built parent-child app, taken from concept to App Store submission and organic launch.
Hunny uses child conversations and creative play to help parents understand the small moments in their child's day.
Parents miss everyday details that children may struggle to explain directly.
Separate child and parent journeys turn playful interaction into useful summaries.
Built the MVP, visual system, launch site, App Store materials, and growth strategy.
Building the product and its audience together revealed which emotional needs resonated, informing positioning, onboarding, and future content.
02
Growth case study
Research-led content testing grew Hunny from zero to 1,070 targeted followers and generated 253.4K organic views in one month.
After typical posts received roughly two likes, a research-informed post became the account's first major breakthrough.
Three weeks later, the refined strategy produced a second, stronger result with high sharing behaviour.
Archived 30-day account result with no advertising spend.
Results shown are from archived Instagram Insights. The campaign account is no longer publicly accessible following an enforcement action affecting an associated account.
Methodology
Collected high-performing videos from the same niche in a structured spreadsheet instead of relying on vague trend watching.
Analyzed hooks through emotions such as fear, hope, envy, relief, and aspiration, then identified repeatable patterns.
Combined proven hook structures with original illustration and storytelling tailored to the values of potential app users.
Compared reach and sharing behaviour, refined creative hypotheses, and planned cross-platform distribution across Instagram and TikTok.

About Renee Ng
I'm Renee Ng, a product designer, growth marketer, and visual storyteller based in Toronto. I combine research, product thinking, and visual craft to create experiences that feel clear, emotional, and memorable.
My path through psychology, fine arts, and information design shapes how I work: I care about how people think, how visuals make them feel, and how products earn attention. That perspective comes together in Hunny, which I independently took from concept through UX/UI, AI-assisted development, App Store submission, and organic audience growth.
Led the product from 0→1—shaping the strategy, research, UX/UI, brand, and launch while growing an organic audience to 253.4K views with no advertising spend.
Provided rotating one-on-one instruction and portfolio critique across concept development, technique, composition, and visual presentation.
Original fine artwork selected and presented in an international group exhibition.
Currently seeking opportunities in app growth, social/content, product and UX design, and visual design.
